Staff Biographies

 

James B. Hartwell, B.A.

President, CEO & CFO

Mr. Hartwell has over 30 years experience in the investment industry, including extensive management positions as well as extensive corporate finance and institutional sales experience.  At EEI, Mr. Hartwell has helped raise over $500 million in equity financings and acted as financial advisor in over $1 billion of corporate/property acquisitions and divestitures in the oil & gas, and oil & gas service sectors. Mr. Hartwell has also been a Former Director of several public and private companies; including HartWell Petroleum Ltd., Command Drilling Inc., and MarkWest Resources Canada Corp.

Warren Brown, B.Comm, CMA

Vice President, Investment Banking

Warren Brown graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce, major in Accounting. Warren started his career in sales but soon moved into accounting, attaining his CMA working as an Assistant Controller for a food distribution company before entering the oil and gas sector as an analyst. Warren later became a Research Associate for a boutique investment bank covering junior oil and gas and the trust sectors. Subsequently, he moved into investment banking with another boutique investment bank, where Warren had the lead responsibility for capital markets in the Calgary office for corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.

 

David Mackie, P.Geol.

Corporate Valuations Manager
David Mackie is Professional Geologist with over twenty-nine years experience in oil and gas production, optimization, and exploration. His broad experience includes many areas within the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, as well as International exploration and production operations. David has exceptional knowledge of information technology and reserves assessment. He was recently employed as the Principal Geologist with a major oil field service company, consulting both domestically and globally for industry clients. In that position he was focused on applying new technologies to reservoir optimization and exploitation opportunities in the energy sector. A specific focus was optimizing hydraulic fracture stimulation treatments in tight gas reservoirs.

 

Peter Linder, MA Economics

Manager Capital Markets

Peter graduated from Sir George Williams University in 1972. He completed his MA in economics from Sir George William University in 1974. Between 1975 and 1989 Peter worked as a senior economist for several major oil & gas companies including: BP Canada, Alberta Energy Company, Canadian Superior Oil and Amoco Canada. In 1989 Peter joined Ziff Energy Group as a natural gas consultant. He then moved on to the Canadian Energy Research Institute where he was VP of natural gas research. From 1994-2002 Peter worked as a Senior Oil & Gas Analyst with BZW Canada then CIBC World Markets and finally at Research Capital. Since 2002 Peter has been President, Owner and Fund Manager of DeltaOne Capital.

 

Jon Grecu

Investment Advisor
Jon spent four years at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, specializing in emerging markets and foreign policy/development. After graduating he pursued his life long goal of playing professional hockey, spending a season playing in West Virginia. Now Jon has returned home to Calgary and is very excited about the opportunity to join the Emerging Market Equities team. Jon will be assisting Gary in providing quality service and helping build strong relationships with existing and new private clients.

 

Gary Hartwell
Senior Investment Advisor and Shareholder of Emerging Equities Inc.

Gary has a degree in Business from Arizona State University, and has been in the investment industry since 1999. He is a part owner of Emerging Equities Inc. Gary specializes in covering companies in the oil and gas sector. He takes pride in dealing with clients on a personal basis, and puts customer relationships and satisfaction as a priority.

 

Soraya Rahemtulla

Administration

Soraya joins the team as licensed Investment Representative and is excited to start building a rapport with our clients.  She has 10 years of experience in the industry and hopes to bring that expertise to the table.
